Our Mission is to establish a documented historical account of the coming of the railroad to the Tucumcari area and the effect on the development of the community, past and present. Our mission will show the emerging of railroad technology. The Tucumcari Railroad Museum will work through national, state, local agencies and interested citizens groups to accomplish this mission. The Tucumcari Railroad Museum will be an educational experience for all, young and old.

The Museum is located in the 1926 Union Station depot building, restored by the support of the community for the planning efforts of the Tucumcari Main Street Project initiated in 2008 by Main Street Tucumcari and the University of New Mexico. Many others contributed to the successful restoration and district development envisioned in those plans.

In April of 2012 Serious efforts began to create a railroad museum in the depot building. On September 22, 2014  the Tucumcari Railroad Museum was incorporated as a 501.c.3 non profit organization.
